About the Book
Learning Chinese the Right Way
We care about developing human potential, and learning Chinese trains the right brain very well (along with the left brain trained by English). For decades, Chinese language schools have dished out flashcards, forcing learners to memorize and choke down the entire pictogram in a confusing messy tangle.
Works for you, not for your school's bank account only
This book will finally debunk all the expensive and hyped up training techniques used by expensive Chinese language schools intent on conning the uninitiated. Chinese characters should be learned by "composition " (of components, aka radicals), not by time-consuming spaced repetition that needs to be perpetually repeated to retain memorization results.
The book will cover etymology where available, or suggested and well-crafted mnemonics otherwise, and at least components for "clustering " memorization efforts (human cognitive model, that "clustering ").
Audio included
This book also has a strong focus on phonology, particularly in bridging from English sounds to Chinese sounds. The "bridging technique " has been used by us to teach countless native English speakers, with virtually instant results (save for the 3 months needed to train muscle memory for automatic performance).
Pardon the punning headline here; no digital audio will be included in the book. Instead, very clear descriptions of how English sounds bridge towards Chinese sounds are laid out.
If you have great phonological awareness and control of your vocal function, you can learn Chinese sounds from the book alone. If not, you can always ask us to use our ears to help check your sound production. (There are only a few of us with phonological awareness, though.)
In any case, learning Chinese sounds merely requires muscle memory --- 3 months, compared to 3 years to totally master Chinese (yes, totally better than common folk on streets in China, if you follow our methods).
About the Author
We are in the business of publishing "Living Books", which are books that are rapidly and frequently updated, usually through a process that benefits from feedback by readers.
Each of our books on LeanPub.com has an attached forum, on which readers can submit feedback. The more feedback we get for a book, the more that book gets updated.
Our books have no need for errata because all updates and corrections are rolled into the books themselves. Unlike traditional book publishing, we leverage LeanPub.com's marvelous platform to keep our books up-to-date every few weeks, instead of every few years in traditional book publishing.
We invite you to write with us! We use ConTeXt and Git to write our books. If you need help with those tools, let us know, so that we can publish books on those tools to help you get started!
