About the Book
This is a solution manual for Linear Algebra and Its Applications, 2nd edition, by Peter Lax. This version omits the following problems: exercise 2, 9 of Chapter 8; exercise 3, 4 of Chapter 17; exercises of Chapter 18; exercise 3 of Appendix 3; exercises of Appendix 4, 5, 8 and 11.
There are at least three approaches to linear algebra: finite dimensional vector space, matrix computation, and finitely generated module over a principal ideal domain. This textbook by Peter Lax is about the first approach.
For students in pure mathematics, a follow-up reading could be another book by Peter Lax, Functional Analysis. For students in applied mathematics and quants in the financial industry, a follow-up reading could be the book by Trefethen & Bao, Numerical Linear Algebra.
Update on 2024-06-26: added three summaries on Jordan canonical form, including a gentle introduction to module theory.
