Practical Test Automation

Practical Test Automation

A developer's handbook

About the Book

During my software development carreer I have participated in many different projects. One of the focuses in most of the projects was testing automation. After switching between several teams I have noticed that in different environments testing automation problems are solved in similar ways. However, currently, there is no single source of information where these approaches could be learned. This testing automation practices emerge in efficient and self-improving teams. The most fascinating thing is seeing the similarities between testing strategies applied and understanding that they actually form tesing automation patterns.

Patterns are basically common solutions for common problems. Since there is no testing automation patterns book at the moment I have decided to write one.

This book is about putting testing automation approaches into structured roadmap. Most of the examples in the books are demonstrated using Java and JVM technologies, however these approaches are perfectly applicable to any environment.

The book will demonstrate examples using open source testing frameworks and tools only. While there are probably good commercial testing automation offerings on the market, author's personal experience with them is rather negative. The times when you should pay thousands of dollars for testing automation tool licenses are gone and nowadays you could accomplish everything with existing open source technologies.
