About the Book
A book about data modeling in the digital age, isn't that strange? When I look at my daily work in which data modeling plays a central role, I don't think so. Data modeling provides control over data from perspectives such as governance, data management, software development and business intelligence. That's why a reference work with modeling forms and an example of a three-layer data model based on an integrated conceptual, logical and physical data model.
This book consists of two parts. Each part looks at data and modeling from a different perspective.
- The first part provides an overview of different modeling formats, depicted in a simple framework to indicate which aspect of data modeling is supported by the modeling formats.
- In the second part a data model is elaborated of a fictitious case the Alberto ice cream parlors. The data model is an elaboration of all the discussed data modeling methods. In the example model a hybrid model is elaborated that makes all notation methods together into one joint and integrated model.
