How to write Faulkner’s “A Rose for Emily” paper

The work of William Faulkner, “A Rose for Emily”, is a classic example of modernism and has surpassed the usual reiteration of tale and to begin writing a rose for Emily essay , it is essential that we cover this attractive and cognitive tale.

The story precipitates in a fictitious town called Jefferson and an imaginary county called Yoknapatawpha. The story circumambulates around a capricious woman called Emily Grierson and begins with her funeral. In the rose for Emily essay, it should be mentioned that she is approximately 30 years old and still under the domination and manipulation of her father and after his death she becomes disconsolate and a liability on the town. . Emily is portrayed as a pertinacious lady who refuses to pay the taxes because once upon a time her father had lent some money to the town owing to which the mayor of the city Colonel Sartoris had annulled her taxes but who himself was dead since three years. Unable to cultivate any other relation in life, part reason being her father’s strictness, upon his death Emily becomes desolate. Emily’s character sketch has to be dealt with a lot of precision as Faulkner presents her in a way, that at the end she appears to be eccentric and outlandish. He weaves this through a series of events and her reactions to various situations and the manner in which she wanted the autonomy to live her life. In the ‘rose for Emily’ essay, it is also essential to mention about an essential character called Homer Barron who belonged to the proletariat. There relation has a peculiar characteristic as Emily belongs to the elite class and Barron is a commonplace worker thereby there relation could not find a scaffolding. As time passed, he abandoned her outraged by which, she poisoned him with arsenic. But the main event to be mentioned is that she kept the cadaver in her room, on her bed and slept with it till the time it began to decay. Emily had discovered love that nobody could snatch from her and would be there with her forever. What is crucial to be observed is that when one is living in constant public gaze due to popularity, it makes them resort to strange ways to satiate their necessities. Its aim is not only to establish the alien and perplexing behaviour of Emily which has grown to the point of being called a retard, but it also portrays the standpoint of the people in the society that an elite and celebrated person can also be destructive.

The essay ‘rose for Emily’ can be written firstly by crypt analysing the character of the protagonist, Emily. For a comprehensive understanding it’s important to carve out the right depths of her nature which should have a reverberating impact on the reader. The essay has stratums of metaphors, symbolism and reminisces which form the basic component of modern literature.
