About the Book
This book is for developers who want to start with the Elm platform. It is expected that the reader has some web applications development experience and knows a bit about JavaScript. This is not a beginner's programming text.
There is a free course accompanying this book. It is the first part of a four part course about Elm that leads from a simple start with the platform to more real-time examples culminating in a (spiritual) re-write of Borland's Sidekick. If you are not familiar with this program read more about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borland_Sidekick
A word about Elm versions: at the moment we are using - as in the examples of the book - version 0.18. Version 0.19 is brewing since a 2016 and is expected to arrive "soon". In any case, the book will be updated to the latest version as soon as 0.19 is released.
The prize of the book will be from free to USD 4.99. Most probably it will be published in February 2018.
About the Author
Wolfgang is programming software since the 1980s. He successfully rejected all calls for management roles and remained hands-on until now.
His journey went from Assembler and C to C++ and Java to C# and F# and JavaScript, from Waterfall To Agile, from Imperative to Declarative and other paradigm changes too many to list and remember.
Most of his career Wolfgang was a contracting 'Enterprise Developer', so the introduction of 'new' languages, frameworks and concepts is very slow in this field. Once he decided to develop his own products he was free of such constraints and ventured into all sorts of paradigms, be it NoSQL or functional and evaluating all the latest ideas, crazy or not. In other words, he has fun developing software.
Wolfgang was born in Vienna, Austria and lives in the UK and Kenya.
