About the Book
This book complements the author's previous autobiography, Looking Forward, Looking Backward. It explores the private emotions behind the more public scientist, educator, mother, wife and immigrant. She weaves a very personal semi-fictional story, loosely based on her life experience. This story addresses the changes that take place over a lifetime, from the society that she was born into to the society she lives in today, a change that is accentuated for an immigrant. She explores in a personal way both the stress and the opportunities for growth that come from family relationships and mental and physical health. She analyses, from a lifetime of experience, some of the social aspects of scientific research. She shows how much her dreams and imagination have directed the path she has chosen in life. The book analyses how various quirks of human nature reveal so much about our inner motivation. Other than the author, her immediate family, and friends from her student days, most of the characters you meet in this book are composite creations and resemblance to specific individuals is unintentional and solely in the mind of the reader.
