Why are you pre-destined to lose out in negotiations? How come you're late for the bus, school or work every single day, even when setting the alarm 5 minutes early?
The Brain Hack Book is about how your brain is making errors in judgment, trying to cheat and take short-cuts without you noticing. These flaws in your brain are called cognitive biases. They let you easily be manipulated in a lot of ways on a daily basis. I want to help people learn about these cognitive biases so they can understand why people make the same mistakes all the time and tell you about some stuff you had no idea could trick your brain.
I love going through old and new research papers and writing about this stuff, because I find a lot of it truly amazing. Unfortunately a lot of the research is not accessible in a more popular scientific and easily digestible form. This is why I'm writing this book.
At first I thought it would be a good idea to write a book about all documented cognitive biases. As there are now almost 170 listed on Wikipedia and the first one I'm doing is around 20 pages, it is pretty clear they all won't fit in one single book. Because let's face it, I don't think anyone will read and ejoy every page of a 3400+ page book. Plus, it would probably take me at least five years to write it.
Instead I will limit myself to just a few of the cognitive biases for this book. You can see which ones currently are decided to be included in the list below. I would love feedback on what more to include. It doesn't have to be any given cognitive bias, heuristic or fallacy, but instead can be "Why I am late for the bus every single day?!".
