About the Book
APEX Calculus 1 is composed of chapters 1 through 6.1 of the full APEX Calculus text. This text was written to have the same basic organization as most traditional calculus textbooks.
The whole text is 972 pages long. For multiple reasons (lower cost per semester, lower weight per semester, increased likelihood of students bringing their text to class, etc.), APEX Calculus has been divided into smaller volumes. This APEX Calculus 1 serves as a text for many 1st semester calculus classes, covering limits, derivatives, and the basics of antidifferentiation and the definite integral.
Extra benefits of APEX Calculus vs the expensive alternatives:
- Every student can access the textbook, even before the course starts, for free.
- Black-and-white paperbacks are on Amazon for $15 per volume.
- Students have forever access to the textbook PDF, including future editions, for free.
Self-study learners will be excited to find that this textbook is well-maintained and is now in its 4th Edition/Version.
Teachers: register at openintro.org/register to get access to teacher-only content, including the option to get a free desk copy or access to exercise solutions. (Sorry to non-teachers, we don't currently offer exercise solutions beyond our Verified Teachers. Details on our reasoning are here.)
The 4th Edition was released in 2018.
