About the Book
It is the mid-late 2000s, but not like you think.
Over the past several decades, the world has become increasingly fractioned into smaller city states within the geographic boundaries of larger nation states, with corporations now running entire city states of their very own. Innovation is on the rise, as is despair, with most people trying to do what the nation states are doing: muddle through. As years go by, it seems that the whole globe has become divided into two types of places: free cities and walled cities.
This play takes audiences through some of the pivotal moments in Devastation Born history; starting with Sakura's discovery of amritum in the Wastes. It depicts her complex relationship with her friend Tyrus, the growth of amritum supply lines, and her growing struggle to balance out the way amritum is present in her life.
About the Author
Devastation Born Writing Collective grew from a group of friends who played around with turn-based and freeform roleplay for about a decade. At some point, we realized that not only had we made some compelling characters and storylines, but that we had built an entire metaverse around them.
Not wanting to let these stories just fade into a series of evaporated game sessions, we set out to turn these stories into something that people could actually read. We started making stories in tiny little chunks called Storylets, basically tiny pieces of a broader interconnected narrative. Bringing together the best of zine culture and penny dreadfuls, most Storylets are between 5000-10000 words.
Along the way, our writer-members began producing other works, releasing a two-act stage play, Amrita, and a soon-to-be-released novella, Call the Dawn.
