About the Book

AI for Data Visualisation is a practical guide to using large language models (LLMs) such as ChatGPT to explore, transform, and visualise data. It’s written for anyone who works with data — from analysts and developers to designers and communicators — and shows how natural language prompts can replace hours of manual coding or point-and-click wrangling. Rather than focusing on theory, the book is built around real examples, drawn from publicly available datasets, with step-by-step prompts and the resulting charts, maps, and dashboards.

The aim is to demonstrate how LLMs can speed up common data tasks — from cleaning and filtering through to chart generation and even recommending the best visualisation for a given audience. Along the way, you’ll learn prompt-crafting strategies, ways to maintain data privacy, and how to run AI-generated code locally.

This is not a strict tutorial but a collection of worked examples and ideas you can adapt to your own projects. By the end, you’ll have a toolkit of techniques for harnessing AI as a creative, time-saving partner in your data visualisation workflow — and perhaps a few ideas you wouldn’t have thought to try on your own.
