About the Book
This book is about how to survive and thrive in the highly rewarding, but emotionally taxing, world of technology strategy and architecture.
This book is not specifically about strategy or architecture, it is about you, the strategist or architect. More specifically it is about you, the human being.
We often talk about diversity in our corporations, yet we seem to be slow to embrace diversity of knowledge and wisdom.
This book aims to bring you selected wisdom from around the East and West that is woven into the context of strategy and architecture. These are combined with a few classic and contemporary psychological concepts. Added to this are my (this is a conversation) strategy and architecture observations and insights from the many generous people that have impacted my career.
My hope is that by reading this book you will be a more successful strategist or architect. However, my deepest motivation is that you might become a happier one with more satisfaction, understanding, and contentment in your journey, wherever it might take you.
About the Author
I am an experienced Enterprise Architect with over 10 years of experience at a leading financial services group operating across Australia and New Zealand. I have more than 20 years of experience in architecting, designing, and delivering solutions that enable business transformation, value creation, and customer experience. I have architectural experience with application and data integration patterns (including B2B, B2C, and B2B2C), platform standards, and defining and embedding lean architecture governance in large architecture communities, including lean principles and other lean guardrails.
My mission as an Enterprise Architect is to deeply understand the business drivers and diverse motivations of the stakeholders, and to guide technology decision making that aligns with the strategic objectives and financial outcomes of the organization. I embed clear, context-savvy, and repeatable narratives to influence and nudge the vision, culture, and behavior. Helping business stakeholders refine compelling business cases; unpacking complex business and operating models is a strength. I greatly enjoy leading, coaching, and mentoring technology colleagues believing this is best done in the moment. I am passionate about my craft, and I constantly seek to learn from diverse sources of knowledge, such as philosophy (East and West), psychology, lean thinking, systems thinking, and of course they key technology powerhouses.
