Foreword

Published seven years after Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, Jules Verne’s novel Off on a Comet! remains proof of his limitless imagination and profound storytelling skills.

With this book the famous author created an adventure that was groundbreaking given the time in which it was published. Verne remains an inspiration for today’s science fiction authors as they bend the laws of nature in their works, just as he does in Off on a Comet!

Verne’s anti-semitic portrayal of one of the characters led to criticism upon publication in 1877 and also to discussions in modern times. While he and his publisher, Pierre-Jules Hetzel, put out a revised version shortly after, it was never translated into English.

Hence, as for the version at hand, the tone and the adventure remain the same as the one originally published over 200 years ago.
