Lean Publishing Tip of the Day: Reaching Out to Reviewers

Book reviews are a great way to get your book noticed by new readers.

Of course, everyone would like their book to get reviewed in a big publication or major online platform.

But getting reviews like that has always been very hard, and it's actually getting harder, as traditional news organizations seem to be moving away from the old-fashioned book review.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't try, though!

The best way to get reviews like that is to find people who've written reviews about books like yours, contact them over email with a personalized note about your book, and a coupon link for a free "review copy" of your book.

(This advice for contacting journalists would be a good model for contacting reviewers, too.)

You should also reach out in a similar way to bloggers or influencers in your subject area or genre.

Don't be shy! If you are polite and professional and offering something of genuine interest specific to them, even if people don't write about your book, they will appreciate your outreach, and they may remember you the next time they come across your name.
