Lean Publishing Tip of the Day: Keep Discounts In Mind

On Leanpub, that can mean making an announcement that you’re temporarily lowering your book’s pricing, or creating a discount coupon campaign.

One of the most effective ways to boost your self-published book sales is by offering special discounts.

On Leanpub, that can mean making an announcement that you’re temporarily lowering your book’s pricing, or creating a discount coupon campaign.

Either way, though, the discount needs to be lower than your book’s “ordinary” Minimum Price, so when you decide on the “ordinary” Minimum Price, you need to set it high enough that you can offer discounts that are still at an acceptable price for you.

Aim for a Good “Half Off!” Discount Price

You might want to base your ordinary pricing on a good “50% off” price.

For example, if you wanted to offer a 50%-off discount coupon for $9.99, you could set your Minimum Price to $14.99 and your Suggested Price to $19.99.

Then, you could create a discount coupon campaign with messaging like, “For the next 24 hours, use this coupon link to get 50% off the Suggested Price!”
