Developing Quality NodeJs Applications

About the Book

This book is practical guide to developing high quality applications using NodeJs; and shows how to set things up such that you ensure that its quality can be verified. It is about having confidence in your applications.

This book is primarily aimed at developers who have already developed NodeJs applications, and want to "do it better". Those who have not developed one before could still benefit from learning good practices from the get-go, but be prepared for a steeper learning curve!

This book is accompanied by a follow up book, Developing Quality NodeJs Application In Depth, which goes into greater detail, and covers more advanced aspects of developing NodeJs applications.

The focus will be on developing web servers using NodeJs. There are other types of applications you can write using NodeJs, such as command line tools, however, the example source code that we will see relates to this category of applications.

Effort has been made to write about libraries, frameworks, and technologies in a general manner. This is quite difficult though, as there is a problem in dwelling in the abstract for too long: Analysis paralysis. Thus, while the concepts will be presented in general terms, the implementation will be described using just one or two libraries, frameworks or technologies.

The code examples that we will use within the book are Short, Self-contained, Correct Examples (SCCEEs), or at least strive to be. Where more detailed examples are beneficial, they will be made available in a public code repository an linked to within the text. The SCCEEs will be used to survey various concepts, and serve as a springboard for the more complex and involved examples.

Electronic Frontier Foundation

Defending your civil liberties in a digital world.
https://www.eff.org/

Based in San Francisco, EFF is a donor-supported membership organization working to protect fundamental rights regardless of technology.

From the Internet to the iPod, technologies are transforming our society and empowering us as speakers, citizens, creators, and consumers. When our freedoms in the networked world come under attack, the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is the first line of defense. EFF broke new ground when it was founded in 1990—well before the Internet was on most people's radar—and continues to confront cutting-edge issues defending free speech, privacy, innovation, and consumer rights today. From the beginning, EFF has championed the public interest in every critical battle affecting digital rights.
