When it comes to religion and spirituality, Ajit may be a study in contradictions like most Indians are. He is the son of a devout hindu mom who also has a picture of Jesus with at least fifty other Hindu Gods in her sanctum. She is a collector. His mom's dad was an atheist Vet who believed in the sanctity of life and routinely chased away any priests who came to our doorsteps seeking alms. He got significant flak from his wife for this who herself was devoutly religious. Ajit's dad is deeply spiritual but his busy work life left barely any time for religion. Ajit's parents sent him to St. Michael's High School, a catholic all boys convent run by the Jesuits in Patna on the banks of India's holiest rivers - The Ganges. The school, established in 1848 has a very strong catholic tradition with most teachers being Christians. Ajit learnt Sanskrit from a Christian teacher, Mr. Simon Anthony. His first crush was a muslim girl who was a tenant in his house for over a decade. He has had many Christian and Muslim friends in India. Some of his muslim friends were strict followers of Islam who would shut themselves in a room whenever there was a party with alcohol flowing around. Others were drunkards.

So, if someone asks him his religious tendencies, he draws a blank. He has never really thought about religion as something to be considered. He feels it is for those who have nothing better to do. He considers a life pondering and hair splitting religion a wasted life. Worse still must be the human condition that bothers itself with the religious life of others. A spiritual life is to be led, not talked about or discussed intellectually or from positions of certitude. He has a single working principle that his mom provided him when he was quite young - "never disrespect anyone's faith". I have unconditional acceptance and respect for whatever rocks your boat (as long as it does not align with violence in thought speech or action).

This book is an effort to disclose his religious and spiritual positions to those who may be interested. This seemed necessary as he is starting to bring in the public domain some of his projects that focus on leveraging technology for amplifying the human condition.
