This book is directly derived from journal entries (available online) written at the time of the events herein. Not exactly a diary, these words were always intended to be read by others, but more of a travelougue of the journey of one vertical sleeve gasterctomy patient in New York City. Open, honest, and full of self-doubt, this story does not seek to be a reference book or a manual, or even really claim to be a complete record, but it does take you in close.
This is what it is like to go, via surgical intervention, from over four hundred pounds to under three hundred. To go from taking the maximun dosage of every anti-diabetic drug category on the market, including injected insulin, to maintaining a near-normal blood sugar without drugs at all. To go from the fattest guy in the room, to someone no longer even described as obese.
This is a chronicle of the process of shedding one identity and finding another. It is deeply personal, self-critical, and often opinionated.
