Coding Genetics

A course on population genetics and R

About the Book

The genomics revolution has made mathematical models and computer programming of genetic processes indispensable aspects of biological knowledge. 'Coding Genetics' helps you to obtain this knowledge. After going over the basics of programming with R, it introduces the dynamics and analysis of population genetics and shows how to write models that describe these systems with R.

The book is thus, on the one hand, a guide to computer programming that will help you develop and analyse models and, on the other hand, a textbook of population genetics. It will help you, whether you would like to learn to program (and to do so with important biological questions rather than with dry principles) or whether you already know some programming, and would like to use your knowledge to learn about one of the fundamental areas of biology: the genetics of populations.

About the Author

Jacob Koella
Jacob C. Koella

Jacob Koella is a professor of evolutionary biology and parasitology at the [University of Neuchâtel] (https://www2.unine.ch) in Switzerland.

With the equivalent of Masters' degree in mechanical engineering (with an emphasis on systems dynamics), a Phd in evolutionary ecology and several years experience in the epidemiology of malaria, he conducts a considerable part of his research on mathematical theory combining the epidemiology and evolutionary ecology of parasites.

He teaches courses on mathematical modelling, parasitology and evolutionary ecology at the University of Neuchâtel and at the ETH Zurich.
